
Amer Shakeel holds a Ph.D. in Accounting and Finance from the University of Central Punjab, Lahore. He earned an MS in Banking and Financial Economics in 2016 from Government College University, Lahore. He is also a Chartered Accountant, certified by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan in 2012, and an Associate Cost and Management Accountant (ACMA) from the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan since 2000. His academic journey began with a B.Com degree from Punjab University in 1996.
Currently, Amer Shakeel serves as an Assistant Professor at the University of Management and Technology (UMT) in Lahore, a position he has held since 2014. At UMT, he is involved in teaching various courses, advising student batches, and coordinating with professional accounting bodies such as ICAP, CIMA, ACCA, and ICMAP on projects of mutual interest. He also participates in marketing activities, develops new academic programs, and is a member of the Board of Studies.
Before joining UMT, he was the Head of the Department at the School of Accounting and Finance at GIFT University, Gujranwala, from 2005 to 2013. In this role, he managed departmental affairs, taught courses, and took part in marketing activities and strategic planning for the university. He also held the position of Chief Superintendent Examination and was a member of both the Board of Studies and the Academic Council.
Earlier in his career, Amer Shakeel worked as an Audit Senior at KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co., Chartered Accountants, in Lahore from 2001 to 2004. His work involved various assignments related to audit, tax, and corporate consultancy for both local and multinational companies.
In his teaching career, Amer Shakeel has covered subjects including Financial Accounting & Reporting, Cost and Management Accounting, Business & Corporate Taxation, and Audit and Assurance. His research contributions are notable, with publications such as “Effectiveness of the Role of Internal Audit Function: A Perception of External Auditors of Pakistan” in Paradigms, and “Attributes of Internal Audit and Prevention, Detection, and Assessment of Fraud in Pakistan” in the Lahore Journal of Business. His other works include studies on corporate social responsibility, internal control systems, and the comparative evaluation of state laws for microfinance institutions.
Amer Shakeel is also actively involved in research projects, notably leading a study on the withholdingization of the taxation system funded by RASTA – PIDE, Islamabad, with a grant of Rs. 2,500,000. In addition to his academic and research roles, he provides training on filing income tax returns for salaried individuals and finance for non-finance professionals. He also offers consultancy services for the online filing of income tax returns.
